Study: Wind farm to bring $9.2 million windfall for Tazewell County
The Bluefield Daily Telegraph reports that an economic impact study released this week found that a proposed wind turbine farm on East River Mountain would generate $9.2 million in new revenue for Tazewell County over 20 years. The analysis – which was conducted by Springsted Inc. – also estimated that the project would create 150 new jobs during the initial construction phase.
According to the wind energy study… sales tax revenue and local employment is expected to be ’significant’ during the construction phase of the wind turbine farm.”
The proposed $200 million wind farm would be comprised of 30 to 40 turbines. BP Wind Energy and Dominion are jointly pursuing the venture that would generate 100 megawatts of electricity, enough to power roughly 30,000 to 40,000 homes. BP and Dominion recently received zoning approval from Wise County to built a slightly larger wind farm there. The Wise County wind farm will likely contain 50 to 60 turbines and generate 150 megawatts of electricity.
