Front Royal solar plant could be largest on East Coast

The Northern Virginia Daily reports that Front Royal’s Town Council and Town Manager are considering a proposal from SolA Verde Inc., an alternative energy company, to build the largest solar power plant of its kind on the East Coast in Front Royal.  The proposed project could cost at least $200 million, occupy from 150 to 200 acres, and would require no financing from the town.  The plant would produce almost double the amount of electricity Front Royal consumes, allowing the excess power to be sold back to the utility.

‘This is an opportunity for Front Royal to be at the forefront of alternative energy and energy independence, bring some new jobs into the community, raise revenues for the community and provide an enhanced lifestyle for our community,’ [Vice-Mayor] Bret Hrbek said.”
